Ottawa Dentistry works from an upper floor of an office tower in the core. Dr. Michael Landau bought the practice in June 1991 and has built the bench since: the four general dentists here qualified in four different systems — Toronto, Montreal, San Salvador and India. Work a general office often refers out — surgical extractions, implants and bone grafting, endodontic surgery, sinus lifts — is done under this roof.

Treatments

The everyday core: exams, hygiene, gum-disease prevention, tooth-coloured fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures, root canals. Past that the list runs deep — root fracture treatment, gum grafting and recontouring, frenectomies, wisdom teeth, veneers, bonding, whitening, full-mouth reconstruction. Orthodontics is unusually broad: Invisalign, ClearCorrect and MTM aligners alongside conventional braces, so the system is picked for the case, not the case squeezed into one system. Children’s bites are watched appointment by appointment.

Technology

Dr. Landau brought dental lasers and digital radiography in, and both stayed central. Imaging runs digital and panoramic; an intraoral scanner replaces the putty tray, and CEREC mills a crown during the visit, not across two. Every mouth gets a VELscope pass — a light-based screening that reveals tissue changes, oral cancer among them, that the eye alone misses. Anxious patients are offered nitrous oxide, and families can be booked together.

The dentists

Dr. Michael Landau graduated from the University of Toronto in 1988 and gave nine years to the Ottawa Dental Society’s education committee and eight to its mediations and ethics committee. Dr. Irwin Kreisman took both degrees at McGill, was chief resident at the Jewish General, taught as a McGill clinical instructor, and is dental consultant at a Bruyère continuing-care hospital. Dr. Roberto Gallardo qualified at the University of El Salvador, requalified through the University of Manitoba, and works in cosmetic dentistry, endodontics and surgery. Dr. Dhawal Mhatre is the biomimetic one — rebuilding a damaged tooth to behave like the original rather than cutting it down.
