Inova Dental opened in 2012 and stayed independent while much of Ottawa dentistry was folded into corporate groups. Two locations, the original one and a second in Orleans, share a single roster, so the dentist who took out a wisdom tooth is the one who checks the healing. The building was planned around access in the literal sense: a wheelchair-accessible entrance, ramp access, accessible washrooms and a lounge wide enough for strollers and walkers.

Treatments and services

General care covers hygiene and scaling, white composite fillings, root canal treatment, oral cancer screening and pediatric dentistry from the first tooth to the teenage years. Cosmetic work runs through whitening, inlays and onlays, veneers, crowns, crown lengthening, dentures and Invisalign clear aligners. Surgery stays in-house instead of going out on referral: wisdom teeth removal, implants, bone grafting where the ridge needs rebuilding, and frenectomy for tongue-tie and lip-tie. Inova is a participating Canadian Dental Care Plan provider and submits insurance claims on the patient’s behalf.

Technology

Digital radiography and 3D cone beam CT let the team plan an implant or map an impacted wisdom tooth in three dimensions before treatment starts; ultrasonic scalers handle hygiene visits. The soft-tissue laser is the real dividing line with the rest of the city’s family clinics. Gum contouring and frenectomies are done with it, and because the laser seals tissue as it cuts, bleeding is minimal and recovery is quicker than after a scalpel.

The team

Dr. Carlyle Louis leads the dental surgeons, working with Dr. Ngozi Chukwudifu, Dr. Sam Daher and Dr. Morshed alongside registered hygienist Abrar Mobarak. The team works in English, French and Arabic. Patients who arrive with dental anxiety describe the same pattern: the procedure explained before it begins, and a pause whenever one is asked for.
