Most practices treat urgent cases as an interruption to the schedule. Mersal Dental built its schedule around them. The emergency page opens with a triage question rather than a booking calendar, new patients are seen inside a day, and a large share of the work is finished the same visit. The caseload leans towards pain, swelling, broken teeth and removals, in a downtown where many people have no family dentist at all.

Treatments and services

Everyday dentistry covers hygiene appointments with the clinic’s own hygienist, restorations for decay and chipped or broken teeth, root canal treatment, crowns and bridges. Beyond that the practice places dental implants, straightens teeth with Invisalign clear aligners, and whitens either in the chair or with custom take-home trays. There is also a shelf of home-care equipment carried in the clinic: electric toothbrushes, water flossers, an ultrasonic cleaner for retainers, dentures and night guards, whitening strips and gel.

Urgent care and oral surgery

Extractions are the busiest thing in the building, simple, surgical and impacted wisdom teeth alike, running to dozens a week by the clinic’s own count. Emergency visits cover abscesses, facial swelling, knocked-out and cracked teeth, lost fillings and crowns, and dental trauma, with the cause diagnosed first and the plan explained before anything begins.

The team

Dr. Youssef Mersal took his dental degree at Benghazi University and was licensed by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario after completing the Canadian equivalency route, with a decade of clinical work behind him. He speaks English and Arabic. Beside him work hygienist Sarah Collett, dental assistant Shahad Ali and a front desk that also answers in French. Patients name the hygienist as often as the dentist, which says something about how recall visits run here.
